Hamlet †Comment On Humanity Essay Example For Students

Hamlet †Comment On Humanity Essay The Elizabethan play The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark is one of William Shakespeares most famous works. One of the potential explanations behind this plays ubiquity is the manner in which Shakespeare utilizes the character Hamlet to represent the intricate operations of the human psyche. The methodology taken by Shakespeare in Hamlet has produced endless various translations of significance, however it is through Hamlets battle to go up against his inside predicament, choosing when to vindicate his dads demise, that the peruser gets mindful of one of the more typical understandings in Hamlet; the possibility that Shakespeare is endeavoring to remark on the impact that ones perspective can have on the choices they make throughout everyday life. As the play unfurls, Shakespeare utilizes the experiences that Hamlet must face to show the impact that ones point of view can have in transit the psyche works. In his book Some Shakespeare Themes ; An Approach to Hamlet, L.C. Knight con siders Shakespeares utilization of these experiences to travel into the activities of the human psyche when he writes:What we have in Hamlet.is the investigation and understood analysis of a specific perspective or consciousness. In Hamlet, Shakespeare utilizes a progression of experiences to uncover the perplexing condition of the human brain, made up of reason, feeling, and demeanor towards oneself, to permit the peruser to make a judgment or structure a sentiment about principal parts of human life. (192) Shakespeare makes way for Hamlets interior issue in Act 1, Scene 5 of Hamlet when the apparition of Hamlets father shows up and calls upon Hamlet to vindicate his foul and most unnatural homicide (1.5.24). It is starting now and into the foreseeable future that Hamlet must battle with the situation of whether to execute Claudius, his uncle, and if so when to really do it. As the play advances, Hamlet doesn't look for his retribution whenever the open door introduces itself, and t he thinking Hamlet uses to legitimize his defer that gets central to the perusers underezding of the impact that Hamlets mental point of view has on his circumstance. So as to completely underezd how Hamlets point of view assumes a significant job in this play, the peruser must endeavor to respond to the key inquiry: Why does Hamlet linger in delivering retribution on Claudius? Despite the fact that the response to this inquiry is, best case scenario to some degree entangled, Mark W. Scott endeavors to offer some potential clarifications for Hamlets delay in his book, Shakespeare for Students: Critics who discover the reason for Hamlets delay in his interior reflections commonly see the sovereign as a man of extraordinary good respectability who is compelled to submit a demonstration which conflicts with his most profound standards. On various events, the sovereign attempts to understand his ethical situation through close to home contemplations, which Shakespeare presents as speeches. Another point of view of Hamlets inner battle recommends that the sovereign has gotten so disappointed with life since his dads passing that he has neither the long ing nor the will to get payback. (74)Mr. Scott brings up profound quality and disappointment, the two of which have a place exclusively with a people own cognizant, as two potential reasons for Hamlets stalling, andtherefore he offers backing to the possibility that Shakespeare is putting significant accentuation on the job of individual point of view in this play. The significance that Mr. Scotts remark puts on Hamlets utilization of individual contemplations to comprehend his ethical issue (74), additionally assists with supporting L.C. Knights dispute that Shakespeare is endeavoring to utilize these situations to delineate the internal operations of the human mind.In Hamlet, Shakespeare offers the peruser a chance to assess the manner in which the title character handles a muddled predicament and the issues that are created as a result of it. These issues that face Hamlet are maybe best seen as exaggerations of the very sorts of issues that all individuals must face as they live their lives every day. The size of these regular issues are quite often a matter of individual viewpoint. Every individual will see a given circumstance dependent on his own perspective. The one, maybe all inclusive, predicament that faces all of humankind is theproblem of character. As Victor L. Cahn composes, Hamlets essential predicament is that of each individual: given this time and place and these circumezces, How is he to react? What is his duty? (69). This difficulty characterized by Mr. Cahn fits in well with the remarks of both L.C. Knight and Mark Scott, since it also requires some genuine contemplation with respect to Hamlet to determine, and furthermore bolsters that Shakespeare is utilizing Hamlets problem to outline the impact that viewpoint, or perspective, can have on a given circumstance. .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 , .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .postImageUrl , .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .focused content territory { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 , .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:hover , .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:visited , .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:active { border:0!important; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; mistiness: 1; change: darkness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:active , .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:hover { haziness: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: re lative; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content embellishment: underline; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content enrichment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u234f16af06ecfdda14ec11513f480c71:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Total Physical Response Essay Hamlets delay in looking for retribution for his dads demise assumes a significant job in permitting Shakespeares investigate the human brain to show itself. Math Post How Many Boys and Girls Attended the Dance - 275 Words

Math Post: How Many Boys and Girls Attended the Dance? (Coursework Sample) Content: A school dance has 228 students. There are 63 fewer girls than twice as many boys. How many boys and girls attended the dance?The answer to 131 girls and 97 boysThe initial post should be at least 250 wordsLet break down the question as followsThe total number of students = 228Let the number of boys be, x while that of girls be, y.This implies that if we sum the x and y we must get the total number of the students in the school danceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬x + y = 228à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬..let this be our first linear equation,The second part of the question says that there are 63 fewer girls than twice as many boys are in the school dance. This implies that the number of girls(y) in the school dance is twice the number of boys(x) less 63, given as;y = 2x -63à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬becomes the second linear equation,x + y= 228à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬.1y = 2x à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬2The system of linear equations can be solved either using substitution method or graphical means.By substitution,To get the solution we, substitute for y in the first equation with (2x à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63)x + (2x - 63) = 228à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬then we open the brackets.x + 2x à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63 = 228à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬.. Add 2x and x3x à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63 = 228à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬..take (-63) to the left side of the equation, it becomes a positive integer.3x = 228 + 633x = 291à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬..divide 291 by 3 to get the value of xx = 291/3 = 97So x = 97, which is the number of boys in the school dance.To get the number of girls(y) present in the school dance we substitute for x in equation 2y = 2x à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63y = 2(97) à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63= 194 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63= 131, which is the number of girls.Graphical meansTo solve the system of linear equations by graphi cal means, we express the in the form, y = mx + c, where, m and c are constantsAnd plot their respective graphs, the point of intersection of the two lines gives the values of x and y.x + y= 228à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬.1y = 2x à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 63à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬2Already equation two has the form y = mx + c,For equation 1 we take x to the LHS of the equationY = 228 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ xTo plot a g...

Social Inequality in Sidewalk - 2613 Words

The book Sidewalk, by Mitchell Duneier, touches on an extreme amount of social inequality issues and things that go on in an everyday urban society. He is a sociologist that wanted a personal inside look on what the people of the â€Å"sidewalk† go through in their mundane lives. The book itself, is a layout, better yet a portrait of these people’s or â€Å"vendors† experiences. Duneier wastes no time trying to dig deep into the problems that the people on the street have to go through. For instance, living conditions, hunger, and family issues while he also touches on bigger problems such as race, class, work, informal economy, social stratification, addiction, and gender issues. I believe Duneiers reasoning for writing and publishing this book is†¦show more content†¦He needs the money bad so he agrees to do it but This is alienation and inequality because Butteroll is doing something for Mudrick, yet Mudrick is only giving him 4 dollars of the profit. He is alienating himself from his fellow workers by cheating them and having them do more work that he’s more than capable of doing for little to no money at all. While he is also alienating Butteroll from the work itself. â€Å"Production process controls the worker† (Marx, Lecture 4). Another prime example of alienation is how the vendors don’t have the money to buy anything that they are selling such as the magazines. They can’t buy anything in them, yet they are selling them to get money. This connects to Marx’s 2nd rule of alienation. â€Å"Alienation from product itself†... â€Å"The end product seems foreign and out of control†(Marx, Lecture 4). The workers can work all they want but they only make a little money everyday on the street to get them food and to take care of their families if there lucky. â€Å"Work becomes a commodity† (Marx, Lecture 4). Work becomes a need for these people, which is why they result to th e street because they need any money that they can make. Another form of alienation seen in the book is that the vendors are alienated from any other type of jobs or work that doesn’t entail being on the street. People look at them as dirty, useless people but in reality, society is the one that makes them this way. They are on the streets because society doesn’t allow themShow MoreRelatedPublic Investment And City Level Differences1329 Words   |  6 PagesSuzanna Alsayed SOCI 3636 Social Inequality Professor Joanna Robinson October 5th 2015 Opportunities For The Better Social policy encompasses more than just income, job security, health care; it also provides the public with opportunities to improve their quality of life (Zuberi 2006, 113). The act is committed intentionally with the objective of creating interruptions that disrupt the normal functioning of the system. Computer users feel the harm directly or through a second party depending on the nature of the tool used in committing the crime (Hull and Sivanesar, 2013, p 98). Computer users across the globe are facing threat, due to the rise in cases of cyber crime, and this is necessitating the intervention of the government through enactment of policies that govern the usage of computer technology. According to Richardson (2008, p 3), cyber crime has grown to catastrophic levels thus posing a challenge to global security. Consequently, besides cyber crime affecting the security of individual users of the system, it has a significant effect on the social, political and economic aspects of peopleâ₠¬â„¢s live hood. As discussed in the piece, cyber crime is an advanced form of violation of the law that poses challenges that were inexistent to the globe prior to the introduction of computers. Forms of Cyber Crime Critics categorize computer crime into two groups namely; offences targeting people using computers, and offenses, which interfere with the functioning of computer networks. The common crimes that affect networks in this case include viruses, restrictive access, and malwares.Show MoreRelatedTaking a Look at Cyber Crime624 Words   |  2 Pages Cyber crime is a term used to describe the various forms of crimes committed through the computer and networks. Analysis Of The Big Sleep And G.k. Chestertons...

On the Outskirts of Corruption In the world of mystery novels, there are dangers lurking behind every corner, and corruption pumps through the veins of the people and places featured in these novels. In both Raymond Chandler s â€Å"The Big Sleep† and G.K. Chesterton s â€Å"The Innocence of Father Brown† the protagonists act as morally sound characters who have to sort through the various corrupting influences and situations in their own world. Both Philip Marlowe and Father Brown act as the moral compass in their respective novels, one who resists the temptation of corruption, and must work outside of society in order to resolve their cases to their own moral satisfaction. Money has always been a corrupting influence in society – money will drive men to kill, and money will protect those who do. In both â€Å"The Big Sleep† and â€Å"The Innocence of Father Brown† money plays an enormous role in the lives of the protagonists and those they interact with. The idea of the import ance of wealth is introduced early on in â€Å"The Big Sleep† – you first meet Marlowe in the expansive and opulent mansion belonging to the Sternwoods. Marlowe himself comments on the importance of wealth on the first page of the novel: â€Å"I was everything a well-dressed private detective ought to be. I was calling on four million dollars.† (Chandler, 1) Marlowe – a man in a position where he could take advantage – charges General Sternwood a fair price for his services, giving the first indication of his own resistance

Studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona Free Essays

The many experiences I have had during my university education have come to represent a period of metamorphosis for me, in which I underwent tremendous personal growth and development.   I truly discovered my personal identity and ultimately discovered my passion, desiring that my future be in the exciting field of Retailing and Consumer Sciences. I originally dreamed of being a Korean diplomat, and this is the reason I have pursued Political Science and International Relations in my undergraduate education. We will write a custom essay sample on Studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona or any similar topic only for you Order Now   This goal changed dramatically in 2005, when I assisted a friend with a project he was working on in Business Administration. I found this to be an exciting experience and it soon became apparent that the field of business marketing was an ideal match for me.   An innate understanding of the subject seemed to come naturally, therefore I took similar courses, excelled in these classes, and exhibited the strongest performance in the subject.   As I studied further, I discovered how I could become empowered with the practical knowledge I would need to become an effective agent of positive change in my community by using my innate abilities combined with what I had learned in class.   I even made a trip to a traditional Korean market called â€Å"Ma-po† to understand how consumer science and retailing work in the practical world. Nevertheless, my academic inclinations were not the only factors in my decision to apply to the Master’s of Science Program in Retailing and Consumer Sciences. My decision was also influenced by other non-academic sources including various extra-curricular and volunteer activities. For instance, I was a member of Sookmyung Communicator: Blue Letter, a student newsletter for which I wrote and edited releveant articles for consumers, faculty, and students during my undergraduate work. Another example of a non-academic experience that led me to make a decision to pursue marketing was my role of Chairperson of the Korean Language Club at Miyazaki International College.   In this role, I learned to communicate effectively with others and important problem solving skills that will be necessary to excel in the field of marketing. Therefore, each of my educational and life experiences has played a factor in my decision to study Retailing and Consumer Sciences. Although it is not a perfect science, marketing strategies can be applied to help businesses, large and small, with innovative and fascinating ways to market items and understand consumer patterns with an analysis of economic growth or recession and finding ways to enhance or solve these issues. With my Master’s Degree in Retailing and Consumer Sciences, I hope to work for an organization that is committed to a sense of community, while also using effective marketing tools for success.   I believe I would excel in this field and would find this type of work fascinating because I possess a strong passion for business and marketing issues, therefore this work would reflect my academic, societal, and community interests.   I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to work in marketing because it is so very dynamic and increasingly relevant in our modern industrialized society. I decided to apply specifically to the University of Arizona to attend the program in Retailing and Consumer Sciences because I believe that the school is clearly a leader in business and marketing, and has a tremendous impact on the community.   The faculty appears to be truly tremendous, takes pride in this specialization, and is committed to a modern curriculum and ongoing growth in the program.   I am confident that continuing my studies at the University of Arizona will equip me with the knowledge and skills I need in order to realize my goals of becoming a successful businessperson. Furthermore, after completing the Master’s Program, I plan to continue my studies of Marketing and obtain a Ph.D. in the field. Eventually I will use my education by pursuing a career as a college professor or a professional researcher. The collection of experiences I have gathered while obtaining my education and through personal volunteering, have transformed me and brought me to the place I am today.   I am an intellectually curious and ambitious individual committed to a lifelong process of learning and continuous service to my community. Studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona would not only be a natural progression of my interests and abilities, but also allow me to exercise what is now my commitment to lifelong learning.    How to cite Studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona, Papers

Phoenix Theatre Essay Example For Students

Phoenix Theatre Essay On 22nd May 2003, we all went to see Blood Brothers for the first time. Blood Brothers was written by Willy Russell and directed by Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright, which was performed at the Phoenix Theatre.  The play was not a musical; alternatively it was a play with music. There isnt a lot of difference between a play with music and a musical, the only difference is that Willy Russell thought that a musical is continually based on love in which the songs are romantic and a play with music creates songs with deeper emotions; The lyrics are about the characters lives. The play was about two twin brothers who were separated at birth and then met up for the first time when they were 7 years old, but they didnt realise they were related. I thought that the play was made up of 8 themes  Class working class and higher class  o Motherly love  Life in Liverpool  Comedy and tragedy  Twins who are separated at birth  Love story  Superstition  From Childhood to Adulthood For instance, a big part was played by the theme of working class/higher class. I saw this as the two brothers was separated in to these categories; the Working class category was portrayed though Mickey and the higher class by Eddie. This caused them not to understand each other whilst putting their points across about the future of their lives. This was implied, when Mickey tells Eddie that he is going to finish school and get a job in the Chippy, whilst Eddie was going to finish school and go to university. They both had there own view. Their class was given to them though fate, and because of fate they were either working class or higher class. A minor difference could result in to a whole different life; the audience realised and were shocked by this when Mickey says, I could have been him. It made me imagine what if Mrs. Johnstone picked up Mickey instead of Eddie; their lives would have been totally the opposite. The whole play is based on motherly love. Mrs Johnstone is the mother of Eddie and Mickey among lots more children as well. She had to give up Eddie. The only reason Mrs Johnstone gave up Eddie was because she could not afford to feed another mouth. The council would have taken some of Mrs Johnstones children and put them in care, so to prevent that from happening she had to give one of her sons away, Eddie. However, she never forgot her son. Alternatively Mrs Lyons looked after Eddie as if it was her own flesh and blood and never told him that he was adopted and never made him feel that way either. One was kept, and one given a way. this is what is said. There was a good reason why Mrs. Johnstone did that, she received no joy in that, she got no pleasure out of it giving her son away either as an alternative she was given grief. The play made it clear to me that when Mrs. Johnstone gave Eddie the locket with her and Mickey photo in it, she hoped and wanted Eddie to remember them and wouldnt ever forget them. This scene was quite an emotional scene as Mrs. Johnstone was saying goodbye to her son for the second time. It was hard letting go the first time but it illustrate to the audience it was harder the second time because her son knew that this Lady was his friends mum, not knowing that she was his mum too. The play was directed using many techniques to demonstrating the directors points. One of the best techniques he used in the play was the mini nightmare sequence and the narrator sang the song the devils got your number standing behind either Mrs. Lyons or Mrs. Johnstone. That created a tensed atmosphere and made the character feels regretful. It also conveyed to me, as a member of the audience that the narrator was the conscience of both of the mothers. However I felt that narrator was more of a devil figure in the play. Because he manly said negative thing and constantly created a pessimistic vibe. .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 , .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .postImageUrl , .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 , .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:hover , .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:visited , .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:active { border:0!important; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:active , .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3 .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6ed0122e926532f0362549dec81da5c3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Welcome to Alabama EssayFor example I saw both of these characteristics of the narrator come though in a part of a scene. Liberalism And Conservatism Essays - Political Ideologies

Liberalism And Conservatism Barry Whiteside Professor Whiteclay English 101 ? 6:30 3 October 2000 Liberalism and Conservatism Liberalism and conservatism have been political ideas and thoughts from the very birth of our democracy. Their views and points of the government's role in a democratic society have changed over the years, but the basic ideas and principles have remained the same. There are many different degrees of liberalism and conservatism as almost anyone can be labeled. Some individuals are radical and extreme while others stand on more of a neutral territory, but the debates between the understood ideas of each group have continued throughout the history of the United States. We will take liberalism's Gary Doore and conservatism's Irving Kristol as modern day examples and compare and contrast the political ways of thinking of each individual. Conservatism is comprised of religion, nationalism, and economic growth. Among these, Irving Kristol believes religion is most important (18). Why? Obviously, religion doesn't teach people to do wrong. In fact, as most of us know, religion sternly instills good values and morals in a person at an early age. These ideas are what tell people right from wrong, good from bad. Religion motivates people to succeed in life not in materialistic aspects, but in law abiding, respectful aspects. Respect for God, life and other human beings. So how can this be bad for a society? It can't and that's why conservatives think it is most important in the function of a government (18-19) If America could live up to the religious standard, crime would be nonexistent. Of course, this is impossible, but it is the idea that drives conservative thinkers. Kristol points out that recent liberal attempts to slow down and decrease the crime rate have not worked (20). Additionally with each liberal program's failure, more and more American people discredit and distrust the government. Overall, the common conservative consensus is that religious ideals should replace big business-like government and the spending that comes with it. (20-21) Liberty, rights, justice and equality are ideals liberalists such as Gary Doore view as the most important aspects in the democracy of America (24). They also feel America has recently drawn away from these ideals and is therefore not as democratic as it once was or can be in the future. Doore believes there is especially room for democratization in the workplace (28). In fact, he points out that it is the lack of freedom of expression and the restrictive environment of the workplace that has led to this situation. More ideas and innovations would come from corporations if they would allow more freedom to its employees. Not only would workers benefit, but the company they work for would also. (28) Another cause for the break down of democracy in America stems from the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George Bush (Doore 26). Because of the Cold War era and the insecurities it brought to the American people, the administrations thought it was necessary to tighten down and take control. To do this they called for more powers to the executive branch. As a result, Doore and other liberals began to see more of an authoritarian government take shape, and the term ?imperial presidency? was created. The situations went as far as banning newspapers and magazines from Cuba, North Vietnam, and Albania (27). These limits, as well as the restrictive environment of the workplace are what liberals feel are most responsible for the decay of democracy that has taken place over the past few decades. Both Doore and Kristol bring up interesting arguments, but they go too far. Kristol was quick to point out that liberal programs have not slowed down the crime rate at all, but the recent attempts by Clinton and his liberal programs have done just that, so their numbers claim. And how about the deficit? Also, a large turnaround. Who or what is responsible for that though? Clinton definitely takes credit for more than he deserves. Doore states that the administrations of Reagan and Bush created somewhat of an authoritarian government. It did go too far, but some of the actions they took were necessary to control the insecurities the Cold War brought forth. It also helped in ending that period. When Doore

Free Essays on The Rise Of Divorce (CAUSE AND EFFECT)

Proven by recent studies, the marriage rate has fallen thirty percent and the divorce rate has increased forty percent. Of all marriages, divorce rates sit very close to fifty percent. In today’s society, it seems almost normal to get a divorce, or to know of someone who is in the process of one. Divorce can be caused by the committing of adultery by one partner or both, rushing into marriage, two people simply growing apart, or ultimately, marriage not being taken seriously in the first place. Affairs seem to be a regular happening today in the United States. One person, or even both partners in the marriage can be guilty of such a sin. The bible labels adultery as a considerable means for divorce but obviously does not suggest that either divorce or adultery should take place. Most commonly, opinions towards adultery are extremely negative prior to any sort of an encountering of it. People quickly jump to say, when asked their opinion on subject, that there is no reason for an affair to occur under any circumstances and that they would never allow it from their partner. In an actual situation, though, some might excuse an affair under specific conditions, some may forgive it and forget it, and very few others may actually get a divorce. This may be why Maggie Gallagher has stated that â€Å" 80% of all divorce rates of this country (the U.S.) are unilateral, rather than mutual decisions.† Gallagher emphasizes the popularity of blame placed on one partner, rather t han on both for the cause of a divorce. Falling in love is noted imaginable by some and very real to some others. Regardless of it’s being, falling in love is heard to happen commonly among teenagers. What sometimes happens when relating to marriage is that two people may feel they are in love with one another just two months after meeting and end up rushing into marriage. Gun Control Issue Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Gun Control Issue - Essay Example Holding a gun decreases the probability of attack. When people have weapons, criminals and juveniles have something to worry about. They are not the only ones with power. When they see that their victims have means of defense, they cut down on the violence. They then think before harming them because their own lives are at stake. In this way, fewer lives are lost than if people had no guns to protect themselves. If the latter was the case, criminals would go right ahead and shoot them because they themselves would have no loss of lives to worry about. To develop this point, a small-scale interview will be conducted. The population will be American citizens. The sample will contain two groups; 1) armed group and 2) unarmed group. A series of questions will be asked to educate the readers as to which group feels more secure and has had less trouble to deal with when it comes to criminals. Secondary data from different States will also be used before and after the changing of gun-contro l laws to find the degree of correlation between gun control and crime. There are over two hundred time-series and cross-sectional studies on gun-control (Lott, J.R., 2000). Secondly, I claimSecondly, I claim that if educated and reasonable people (who are not criminals) own guns, they are less likely to use it than if a juvenile has it. Even if everyone follows the realist approach and believe that they should hold guns and the total number of guns increase, there will still be less crime. This is because the population of normal people that own them, use them at most for self-defense. They do not use these to violate the constitution and create crime. Again, statistics will be used to show the probability of normal and reasonable people actually holding guns to do the crime. Finally, the third main point used to carry my statement is that the Supreme Court also supports it. If the Court believes that individuals should hold guns and if they have changed the gun-control laws countrywide, there must be a very good reason.  Ã‚

Where will healthcare be in the next five years Term Paper

Where will healthcare be in the next five years - Term Paper Example What is the future of health care in America? This piece seeks to address some of those questions in detail. I believe that health care reform in the United States is still going to be a hotly-contested issue, especially when it comes to the complaints that will be heard by: doctors; insurance companies; and small business owners, especially when it comes to issues like long-term care, walk-in clinics, hospitals, and health care reform bill issues. Doctors are not going to like the new health insurance plan. Since doctors are going to have to treat everyone from now on, regardless of whether they can pay or not, obviously this is going to have a huge effect on how doctors do business. Doctors cannot now turn away patients. They must be willing to see anyone who comes to them with a problem because now everyone will have insurance in order to pay for their doctors’ visits. Doctors are going to most likely be upset with health care reform because of several reasons. Doctors are going to be more in demand now more than ever because they will have to treat so many new patients. They can’t charge whatever they want—they are going to have to receive whatever payment the government gives them. This may upset many doctors because, before now doctors could control much of what their salary was when they regulated the prices for their visits. Since health care is going to be mandated, many doctors will have to receive subsidies from the government for seeing people on the public health care plan, and they are not going to like this establishment for long-term care. Walk-in clinics are most likely going to be overwhelmed. Doctors in hospitals will have to treat whomever walks through their doors, for the most part. They must now treat everyone, regardless of people having had pre-existing conditions. Now doctors must treat whoever comes to them for help; they cannot pick and choose. â€Å"Like insurance companies, physicians and hospitals will

Ghost Story of Haunted Row House: Philadelphia Essay -- Ghost Stories

Haunted Row House: Philadelphia The particular story I collected takes place in Philadelphia, where ghost stories are plentiful. Philadelphia is an old city with a rich cultural heritage, and our founding fathers made history in the place that was once our nation’s capital (Eidmann). Many believe that their spirits and spirits of those from colonial times still lurk around. It is easy to feel like spirits are around when in a place where many people have lived and died before, and in a place that is filled with old buildings and landmarks. All of these factors make this city a perfect place for a ghost story. This story was told to me by a close friend, in my dorm room on a cold rainy day in April. My friend is a female of Columbian descent, 20 years old, who lives off campus in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is a sophomore and is currently studying journalism at Maryland. She heard this story about a year ago while she was with her mom, and it was told to them by a co-worker of her mother’s at a national magazine. This story was collected by tape recorder, which was held by the teller. So this past year I heard a ghost story from my mom’s coworker and friend. Her daughter recently purchased an old row house in Philadelphia. She lives there with her husband and they have a daughter, who was about two years old. They started to notice REALLY [eyes get large] weird things happening around the house, it was really eerie and started to make them nervous. Their daughter has a playroom in the attic, and she used to say, actually, she still says that there is somebody up there. She describes him as an African American male--well she says it’s a â€Å"Black man†--and she says he sits there and watches her play. When she told her parents... ...just another person who wants to be friends and not think the ghost will hurt them or that there is anything scary about it. The tale capitalizes on the fact that an adult would be uneasy thinking that a child can play with a ghost without thinking twice, and even more uneasy that a child can see what they cannot, since adults are supposed to be wiser and more able to explain things. The imagination of a child, which can create some astonishing things, is a scary entity. Computer Motherboard (Descriptive) Essay

Motherboard Motherboard acts like the arteries of a human taking the blood all over allowing the blood to travel. It has many line-like structures that are like the veins and the arteries. These lines are the wires mounted on the motherboard that keep thousandths or even millions of connection. Motherboard is a small yet powerful device inside the computer system. The motherboard has three cards on it. First, the graphics card, it is like the eyes of the computer, it acts like the eye that saw and reflects images to the screen. Second, the sound card it is the mouth of the computer, it sends sound to the speaker, it shouts what the computer says. And the third, the modem, the nose of the computer. It sniffs messages from the wires coming from the telephone lines. If there’s a blood, there’s also the heart. The processor of the computer acts as the heart of the computer. It has a square-shaped chip that has many pins. It sits on the motherboard controlling all the cards including the motherboard. It controls, allows, and restricts information that is being disseminated into the system like the heart. It also has a heat sink and a fan keeping the processor cool. To be able to complete the system, it also has the brain. Hard disk serves as the brain of the computer. It is rectangular in shape. Inside it, there’s a mirror-like disk where all the information are stored. The disk spin at greater speed, depending on the information /data is being written into the disk. Motherboard is also consists of chips, transistors, and capacitors. It is the other component of the motherboard that acts like the organs of the system. These chips may be small as a grain of rice and bigger as a coin. Transistor is a small, black in color and rectangular in shape. It is sometimes recognizable because of its three metal legs attached on it. Transistors is consists of thousand or even million of IC (Integrated Circuit) packed in one part. And the capacitors are like tanks attached in the motherboard. It varies in size; it may be small, medium or large depending on the voltage and its capacitance. Motherboard is consists of millions of chips, transistors and IC’s. It acts like the body of the computer. Without it, the computer will not work. It is like the trunk of a tree. It is an amazing thing that has millions of wires attached in a small board. It is powerful and fundamental part that the computer will not work without it. Reference: * Motherboard. Essay on 2001 USA Patriot Act is Unconstitutional and...

I. Introduction In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks US Congress passed legislation known as the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 commonly known as the USA Patriot Act. This paper will attempt to prove that not only is the USA Patriot Act unconstitutional but many of its provisions do nothing at all to protect Americans from the dangers of terrorism. While this act made legislative changes that increased surveillance and the investigative powers of law enforcement agencies to protect America from further terrorist acts, the passing of the USA Patriot Act has reduced the privacy rights of Americans and also does not†¦show more content†¦The Bush Administration implied that members who voted against it would be blamed for any further attacks - a serious threat at a time when the nation was expecting a second attack would come at any moment and when reports of anthrax letters were appearing daily. Congress acted without determining whether the weaknesses in our surveillance had contributed to the attacks or whether the changes they were making would help prevent further attacks. The two amendments that were effected the most by the USA Patriot Act were the First and Fourth Amendments. The First Amendment reads â€Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances† .
